The creations

Well, they are done! Heather and I did two cakes in one week! We both decided that we won't be doing that again anytime soon, but we had so much fun doing it. Both were so different. The first cake was a cake for a guy's wife who is coming home from Iraq. We had a lot of fun making it. If I could do it again I would definitely make the red stripes thicker or at least have more of them. James loved the bottom of the cake, he thought we got the colors perfect.

So after we got done with the Patriotic cake, the plan was to do the couch right after. But by almost 11:00 at night we called it good and decided to do the other cake the next day. Here is the story. A guy was selling his couch, a lady called and wanted to buy it, so when she goes over there to pick it up the two fall madly deeply in love and get married.....I thought they still had the couch, but I guess they sold it recently. The guy asked James if Heather and I could make a cake resembling the couch (picture below) for a party they were having. The couch is kind of the thing that brought them together. The wife thought it was hilarious!! It was so funny to see her face :) So here is a picture the guy gave us to go off of, and then pictures of what we came up with.

The couch cake was our hardest cake so far. It was a lot of detail work, it kept us thinking. I loved doing it though. Don't let the pictures fool you either, this cake was a monster...it was like 18-20 inches long and so thick!! Although I love making all types of cake, I think the theme cakes and ones that have stories behind them are my favorite now.
So I know Heather did this on her blog a while back but how much would you charge for these cakes? We have been having a hard time being able to come to decision on a certain number. What would you charge or what would you pay?

While I have a minute

I have a few minutes while the boys are down for naps to be able to sit and relax just for a few moments before I have to start cleaning and making fondant for 2 more cakes that Heather and I are doing this weekend.
James was supposed to work this weekend (friday, saturday and sunday) But Friday he started getting a really bad tooth ache and he called me to come pick him up to go in to the dentist. They looked at it and said he just had a cavity and to come back on Tuesday. That night he was in so much pain...I dont like having a husband who doesnt feel good, so I called the dentist on Saturday and told him what was going on and he went ahead and called in a higher perscription for his pain and told him to come in first thing monday morning.....blah blah blah his tooth still hurt and he stayed home from work on sunday because he couldnt eat and was still in a lot of pain. They scheduled him for a 40 minute appointment at 9:20 so me and the boys decided to go to the park for that time...............(pictures below) 3 HOURS later he was still there! They ended up having to do a root canal! The hygenist said that she couldnt belieive that it wasnt much worse with how long that it was hurting him. All in all, his mouth feels a lot better.

Well, the tooth thing really threw a new element in my weekend. I was expecting to spend Easter with just me and the boys and then go to my parents house after church. It was a nice surprise to have him home (still not feeling great) but still home. He stayed home with Nolan (since he woke up early and needed a nap) then I got to spend the rest of Easter with him.

James had Monday and Tuesday off. We had a very active 2 days off. Monday with the tooth thing and then Tuesday we cleaned out the whole garage! not just part of the garage.....but all of it!! If anyone has seen it, you know that it is an awful mess. It looks so nice in there! I keep peeking out there and admiring our work :)

The rest of the week is full of excitment. We are getting ready for a garage sale on Saturday, we have doctor appointments, some play dates, and cakes to make!

Heather and I have 2 cakes to do this week. The first a brown couch cake.....long story that I will post on Saturday. And another cake for a guy whose wife is coming home from Iraq on Saturday and wants a fun cake to surprise her :) romantic huh? We have never had 2 cakes to do at the same time, so we are trying very much to make sure we are getting everything done. I am so excited to do these cakes, it should be a lot of fun. And working with Heather is so easy, once we get all the stuff together, the cakes come together so much easier.

Here are the pictures from the park on Monday. I brought mine and James' tennis racquets and let the boys play tennis(can we say hilarious?!). I tried to get some better pictures of Nolan, but he was way to excited and would not sit still at all!

Happy Easter!

“He is not here: for he is risen, as he said” Matthew 28:6

And a part from my favorite song:

I stand all amazed at the love Jesus offers me,
Confused at the grace that so fully he proffers me.
I tremble to know that for me he was crucified,
That for me, a sinner, he suffered, he bled and died.
Oh, it is wonderful that he should care for me Enough to die for me!
Oh, it is wonderful, wonderful to me!
(“I Stand All Amazed,” Hymns, no. 193)

I hope you all have wonderful Easters and remember the true meaning of the day. Jesus rose from the tomb on Easter. His gift is what makes this day so special. I am so very blessed in all I have.

The award for the worst mom of the day goes to...........

ME!!!

Here is why......
In memory of
Squidward the fish
March 15th 2008 to March 18th 2008

He was such a small fish, only lived 3 days in the Sautter home

before the human with the long brown hair broke his fin while pouring the

water back into the bowl after cleaning the bowl...she was too lazy to lift

Squidward out by the net and nicely and "set" him into the nice clean water.

He passed away soon after peacefully floating to the top of the bowl

His owner, Gabriel loved him so much

Even though he was only in the Sautter household for 3 days

He enjoyed his time swimming, eating and pooping

He is survived by his brothers, Spongebob and Patrick

So yeah, we had our first death of a pet in our house......I haven't told Gabe yet, I am waiting for him to notice then I will nicely tell him!! Oh goodness! It was my fault....I swear, James is never going to let me have a dog :) So hopefully these last two goldfish hang on a little longer!!

yum

Here is another wonderful recipe. James and I were actually eating way too much of it and I had to stop making for a while. It is great right out of the oven with honey on it and actually as a bread for french toast.

Potuguese Sweet Bread

1 cup milk
1 egg
2 tablespoons margarine
1/3 cup white sugar
3/4 teaspoon salt
3 cups bread flour
2 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast

Add ingredients in order suggested by your manufacturer.
Select "sweet bread" setting.

Or, if you don't have a bread machine, dissolve the yeast in the milk and add it last. Mix altogether and let rise for 1 hour and punch down and let rise again for 15 minutes. then Bake at 350 for 20 minutesish. They are also great as rolls.

Enjoy!

Ta Da!!!!!

Well...............yesterday was the BIG day! Heather and I had our first wedding cake!(For this girl) It was such an amazing experience. After Heather and I put the cake together (frosting and putting fondant on) on Wednesday night we were pretty darn sure something bad was going going to happen eventually because when we put the cake together it went soooo smoothly and without error (except one scary moment, but that was real quick) Heather had to go out of town on Thursday, so I was pretty scared out of my mind to decorate and deliver the cake. Heather left me pretty prepared and ready to go. And I had a great set of people helping me put the cake together (Thanks Judy, Erin, and Tara!!) We delivered the cake with ease. Stacked the cake with ease. I think the cake turned out beautiful! I am so excited to hear what the reactions were from the wedding. Thanks everyone for the well wishes over the past week. We definatly appreciate it! :)

Through the eyes of a 4 year old

So I have two sick boys. yuck. After about two weeks of Nolan having a cold which we thought started out as allergies ended up as two ear infections and croup. Then Gabe ended up with a nice upper respritory infection. It is a lot of fun over here with hacking coughs and runny noses and upset kids. While I had Nolan at the doctors last Friday, Gabe and James stayed home and this is what I found on my camera when I came home. I guess to keep Gabe happy, James gave him the camera to take some pictures. These are only 6 of the 70 that I had on the camera.

His new game (which is a lot of fun by the way)
I love this self portrait type picture.....do you love the drool running down one side?! :)
I'll call this one, "purple cup"
His favorite book
Laundry
And this is my favorite picture of them all........... :)
Well, the rest of my week is very very busy (Heather can vouch for me, as she is too) We are currently putting together our first wedding cake. Wish us luck! I hope everyone has a good week!

Ladybugs and flowers

Heather and I put together another great cake today. A friend of mine is having a baby soon and asked us to make her baby shower cake. The theme is kind of a mix between her invitations(which have flowers on it) and the babies bedding which (which is ladybugs) We tried to incorperate both and this is what we came up with! Even though we kept having a hard time with things (mostly me) I am so happy with the outcome of it. Congrats Megan!!

Guess what I get to see?

I was introduced to this book about 2 months ago:

And soon after I started reading it I found out that the movie was coming out...take a look at the trailer:

And guess what?!? I get to go see the movie tonight!! I am so excited, Tara and I have already decided that we are getting a big thing of popcorn and maybe some candy. This book was a great read, I really enjoyed it! I really recommend it if you have any time. It is one of many books by Philipa Gregory and thanks to my mom, me, tara and her have been reading all of the books by her which all tie in together.

Anyone have a movie they want to go see?

Where is my time going?

So as I start this post I just want to make sure you guys know that this post wont be all venting :)
I for the past two weeks.....oh, what am I kidding.....the past few years, but more lately I have been noticing my struggle with procrastination. I have always been awful with it and it is a hard thing to deal with. I do have ADD and have dealt with it all my life and I have medicine I can take, but most days I would rather try to get things done without it. I only try to take it when I am really needing to get things done. So basically the last two weeks or so I have found it really hard to get motivated to do anything....you would think with the spring coming and nice weather, that I would be excited to get things done. But no, I write my lists, I make the time, but a lot of things just end up being forgotten or pushed aside as a " I will do it later". If I do forget it usually comes back and gets me when I really cannot do anymore than I am doing then. Cleaning is just bogging me down, there is so so much that I want to do to improve our house and I can't do that till the cleaning is done, I am not making the time to call friends that I dearly would love to talk to. With all this, I am putting aside my calling which I am so very blessed to have. The other ladies trust me, and I need to start putting my 100% back in, I guess in the past week I have realized I need to get back on the horse and really give it my all.

I was reminded while thinking the past few days about a scripture in Matthew about Jesus walking by the Sea of Galilee and tells Peter and his brothers and some other men to put down their nets and follow him and he will make them fishers of men.....They didnt debate or think "well, maybe later" or " I'm too tired, let me rest, and Ill follow you tomorrow" They put down their nets and followed....no questions asked, they just knew they needed to do it. I wish I had the same perspective on the things in my life. If I do it now, all will be good. I know my mom will respond to this post and remind me of how long I have been procrastinating :) but now that I have come to the realization that my house is not how I want it to be and now I know what I need to do to change it, I am going to turn the TV off more often, keep the laptop closed more during the day, try to call one friend a day that I havnt talked to lately, set aside more time during naps to work on my calling, play with my kids more, I will spend more time reading my scriptures and give James a few more hugs. Tomorrow is a new day, so wish me luck!

So if you have made it this far, thanks :) I appreciate it! So let me tell you about my weekend, we left Nolan here (thank you Judy and Steve!!) and took Gabe to Portland for some much needed Mommy, Daddy, Gabriel time. We enjoyed talking all the way down and hearing Gabriels thoughts on things in life. We had a great Saturday when we went to IKEA......can I just say how much I love that store?!? Then we did a little shopping and then thanks to Mike and Rachel we got to meet up with Erin and Matt and some of James friends from Highschool and went to dinner and enjoyed a complete evening of talking and laughing. On the way home we stopped by Multnomah Falls (pics below) and hiked up....Gabe was so impressed by how big it was. Nolan was happy to see us and I was happy to have him give me a big needed hug.

This week is going to be one of my busiest, I think I will really be needing everyones prayers on me keeping up with my lists of things to do! Heather and I not only have a babyshower cake (Heather doesn't HAVE to, but is so very nice to help for the babyshower one) but a wedding cake to make for the 15th. I have been telling myself it was the 15th....but in my mind I keep saying 28th....???? so we need to start getting cakes made and fondant made and frosting made. We also have to do all of this by next Thursday because Heather is going out of town. My next 7 days are going to be amazing....I am so excited to get all these things done, but a little nervous also. I also get to babysit my neice tomorrow, which I am excited to do, but I think it will put me back in my place and remind me that I am not ready to try for another baby yet...........or......it may be so easy that I will have baby fever by tomorrow afternoon :)

Okay, So I am done talking all your ears off, for whoever is still reading this, you are true friends for listening to me moan and groan. I promise not every post will be me complaining about my flaws!!!!! :)
Here are our pictures from this weekend

And I have to throw this one in.....this is me and James and Mulnomah falls the day we got engaged. that was almost 7 years ago!!

Thank you all for being great friends. I hope you all have a great week! Hopefully the wind will stop blowing so we can all start spending more time outside in the beautiful sunshine :)
